GREENE, IOWA - Funeral services for Mary J. Tidemanson, 73, of Greene will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Mitchell, Iowa.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. First St., Greene, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Mary Joan Tidemanson died Dec. 29, 2013, at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly.

Mary Tidemanson

Mary Tidemanson, 73, of Greene, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the Waverly Health Center following a long struggle with several illnesses. Memorial services will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene, with Pastor Jenny Suydam presiding. Interment will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Mitchell. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Tuesday, Janaury 7 at Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. 1st St., Greene.

Mary J. Tidemanson was born November 26, 1940, in Silverton, Oregon. She was the daughter of Peter and Gladys (Maxwell) Ditchen. She passed away on December 29, 2013, at the Waverly Health Center, in Waverly after a brave battle with several health issues.

She lived in Oregon until 1950 when her family moved back to Greene, Iowa. She went to the Coldwater Township Country School and graduated from Greene High School in 1959.

On April 2, 1963**, she married Carl Tidemanson at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene, Iowa. Carl and Mary lived west of Greene until his death on June 10, 2007.

Mary worked in hospitals and care centers for over 50 years retiring after having heart surgery.

Mary enjoyed getting together with her cousins. She was a good cook and brought cheerfulness to any group. Her hobbies were fishing, boating, crocheting, old classic movies and photography. Mary very much loved her dogs, Bandit, Cinnamon, Carmie, Conrad, and cat, Carlie.

Mary enjoyed traveling. She went to Hawaii, Panama, Aruba, Alaska, Colorado, Oregon and New York City.

She is survived by many cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Carl in 2007, her father in 1945, mother, Gladys in 1967, a brother Kenneth in 1995.
