Obituary:

Robert J. Feldt, age 79, of Eau Claire passed away on Tuesday, May 27, at his home from pancreatic cancer.

Robert was born on Feb. 17, 1929, to the late Robert and Laura (Schroeder) Feldt in Newburg Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. In 1946, he graduated from Carpenter High School, and then from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, in 1950 with a major in farm operations and agronomy. He was a charter member of the Concordia Club and the Beta Sigma Psi National fraternity.

Robert entered the U.S. Army Reserve in January of 1951, retiring as lieutenant colonel in February of 1981. His assignments included photo interpreter (1963-1967), commanding officer of the 875 Replacement Company, intelligence instructor for the 5th Army Intelligence School, Fort McCoy, Wis. (1968-1977), and the Analysis Foreign Service Intelligence Center (1969-1980).

In 1951, he was employed by the U.S. Natural Resource Conservation Service (formally the Soil Conservation Service), working in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin until his retirement in 1988. He worked in all phases of soil, water, environmental, natural and human resources, serving as a trainer for new employees and instructor for the National Program of Resource Conservation Development. Robert was the first coordinator of River Country RC and D, which served nine counties in west-central Wisconsin from 1976-1988. He initiated a soil and water conservation program at the University of Minnesota, Crookston.

He also was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, charter member of Minnesota Inventors Congress, charter member of Minnesota Wheat Growers Association, life member of Military Officers Association, life member of National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (serving as president for five years in local Chapter 371), seven years as director on the Wisconsin NARFE Federation Board, life member of Shii-take Growers Association, member of BPOE 402 Elks, and member of the Eau Claire Rod and Gun Club. Robert also enjoyed reading, golfing, hunting and mushroom growing.

Robert is survived by his wife of 38 years, Catherine; stepson, Michael (Sydney) Perrizo; grandchildren, Michaela, Joseph, and Ryan all of Spokane, Wash.; sons, Michael Feldt of Burnsville, Minn., Robert (Lorri) Feldt; grandchildren, Thomas, Susan, Samuel all of LaPorte, Ind.; daughters, Pamela Feldt of Minneapolis, Minn., Allison Feldt of Northfield, Minn., and Jennifer (Tim) Hockin of Wausau; brother, Harold (Ann) Feldt of St. Ansger, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian burial will be at noon on Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Father Eugene Klink officiating.

There will be a vigil service at the funeral home at 6 p.m. Friday. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minn., at a later date.
