HAROLD BROWN
OF CARPENTER

Harold A. Brown, 58, of Carpenter, Iowa, died on March 1, 1971, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services were held at Deer creek Lutheran Church near Carpenter last Thursday. Burial was in the Newburg cemetery, and Rev. R. Lehmann, pastor, was in charge.

Harold Arthur Brown was born on August 5, 1912, in Marshall county, Minnesota, the son of Herman F. and Elvira Dahl Brown. He was baptized in the Zion Lutheran Church, Northwood, by Rev. Staehling, and was confirmed at Deer Creek Lutheran church in 1926 by Rev. Olaf Langehough.

Following graduation from Carpenter high school, he farmed with is father until 1925 when he started working for Nuel Culbertson at the Carpenter Produce, which he purchased in 1948. He operated the Carpenter Produce until January 1, 1971.

On August 22, 1936 he was united in marriage to Ruth Nickerson at the home of her parents near Rock Falls by Rev. H. Sunderman. Mr. Brown was a member of the Carpenter school board and was president of the Carpenter Commercial Club for a number of years. He was a member of the Deer Creek Lutheran Church and served on various church committees.

Mr. Brown underwent surgery in August 1970, and re-entered the hospital on February 20, 1971.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Carpenter; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Judy) Jacobson of Medford, Minnesota, and Mrs. Daniel (Janice) Roe of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman F. Brown of Carpenter; one brother, Calvin Brown of Grafton; three sisters: Mrs. Harry (Verna) Reynolds of San Bernadino, California, Mrs. John (Hazel) D'Errice of Santa Monica, California, and Mrs. Jesse (Ilene) Wilder of Kenia, Ohio; seven grandchildren and six nieces and nephews.
