Funeral services were held in Austin for a former Mitchell county man, William P. Bennett, 83, who was at one time president of the Mitchell Savings Bank. He died January 19, 1971, and rites were held January 21, 1971.

Mr. Bennett began in the banking business at the First National Bank in Austin in 1908. He was with the now defunct Mitchell bank form 1920 until its closing in 1942.

He was a prominent figure both in the Mitchell community and in Austin since he lived there.

Surviving are his wife, Ida Norton Bennett; a daughter, Mrs. Gilford Green (Helen) of San Francisco; one son, William of Neenah, Wisconsin; and three grandsons.
