Eugene “Gene” Troge, age 86, of Osage, passed away Friday, November 8, 2013, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1921 317th Street, south of Osage, with Pastors Clarke Frederick and Byron Northwick officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery with military honors by the Osage American Legion Post 278 and Osage VFW Post 7920. Visitation is from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Gene was born June 28, 1927, in Rudd Township, Floyd County, on the Troge homestead south of Osage, the son of Arthur and Lynda (Bahnsen) Troge. He attended a rural school in Rudd Township and graduated from Orchard High School in 1946. Gene served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from December 1950 to November 1952. He became a member of both the Osage American Legion Post 278 and the Osage V.F.W. Post 7920.
Gene married his soul mate Dorothy Dieterich on June 20, 1954. Dorothy passed away on July 28, 1977. An avid Hawkeye fan, Gene founded the Osage “I” Club. Gene was active on the Mitchell County Concert Series Board and served as membership chairman since 1976. He also served on the Faith Lutheran Nursing Home Board for over 20 years. Gene was a life member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he held many offices. He was also on the Calvary Cemetery Board, where Gene will be buried near the church.
Gene is survived by his sister, Audrey (Wayne) Benson of Centennial, Colorado; a niece, Janeen Benson of Centennial, Colorado; a nephew, Ashley Benson of Dallas, Texas; and many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Dorothy.
