COCKRUM LOSES BATTLE WITH CANCER

Funeral services will be held today, February 19 for Dan Alan Cockrum, 36, of Osage at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage. Rev. Joseph Nesheim and Rev. Dennis Hanson will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Champioon Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Dan died Sunday, February 16, 1986 at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital after fighting lung cancer since October 1985.

He was born December 9, 1949 in Osage, the son of Hershel and Gerry Bloomquist Cockrum. He graduated from Osage High School in 1968 and attended Mankato State University and Grandview College in Des Moines.

In December of 1973, he and Kim Auten of Ft. Dodge, were united in marriage in Ft. Dodge.

Dan worked with his father at Hersh's Plumbing and Heating from 1973 until his father's retirement in 1979. He then worked for Foth Plumbing and Heating in Osage until 1983. Since 1983, Dan has been a district representative for Lutheran Brotherhood Fraternal insurance for Mitchell County.

Dan was an emergency medical technician with the Osage Volunteer Ambulance Service for 12 years, served as a member of the Osage Fire Department for 10 years, and devoted 2 years to the summer ball program as a T-ball coach. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, worked on the tentmaker support group and a Sunday School teacher for 11 years.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charley and Della Cockrum; Cora and Robert Bloomquist; and one brother, Thomas Jo, who died in infancy.

Survivors include his wife, Kim; a daughter, Danyel; and a son, Andrew, both at home; his parents, Hershel and Gerry Cockrum of Walnut Creek, Calif.; a brother, Kurt of Walnut Creek, Calif.; a sister, Jannel Burke of Rialto, Calif.; and three nephews, Thomas, Kyle and Walt.
