Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 26, 1987 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Osage, for Kenneth Klemesrud, 78, of Osage. He died on Thursday, May 21, 1987 at an Osage nursing home. The Rev. J. Nesheim and Rev. D. Hanson officiated. Burial was in the Rock Creek Lutheran cemetery, rural Osage, where military rites were conducted by American Legion Post 278 of Osage.

Mr. Klemesrud was born on June 28, 1908 at Cooperstown, North Dakota, to Martin and Elizabeth (Norby) Klemesrud. He attended North Dakota schools and graduated from Grand Forks, N.D. High School. He came to Iowa and married Nora Maakestad on November 16, 1928 in Mitchell County. He worked as a farm implement salesman at Chatman Implement Co., Osage.

Mr. Klemesrud served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and after the war he returned to the Osage area. He then operated the Meroa Groery Store, rural Osage. Later he was a foreman for L.R. Falk Construction Co., St. Ansgar, for many years, and then a car salesman for Erdmann Motor Co., Osage.

After Mrs. Klemesrud died in 1975, he moved to California where he lived for eight years. In September 1976, he married Candace Prewett in California. They moved to Osage in 1984. She died in 1985.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter; two brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Wold of Pontiac, Illinois, and Mrs. LaVern (Kathleen) Kollman of Osage; two sons, Gary of Iowa Falls and Richard of Maple Grove, Minnesota; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Leland Klemesrud was born June 28, 1908 at Cooperstown, Griggs, North Dakota to Martin Cornelius Klemesrud and Elesabeth Marie Halsteinsdatter Norby, the youngest of their four children.

Found in the 1910 census living at Hamlin, Nelson, North Dakota: Martin K Klunesrd 39, Elisabet Klunesrd 29, Cliford Klunesrd 8, Melvin Klunesrd 6, Thersa Klunesrd 4, Kinneth Klunesrd 1 yr 10 mos.

Found in the 1920 census at McVille, Nelson, North Dakota: Martin Klemesrud 49, Elisabeth Klemesrud 40, Clifford Klemesrud 18, Theresa Klemesrud 13, Melvin Klemesrud 16, Kennet Klemesrud 11.

Kenneth married Nora Beatrice Maakestad on November 16, 1928 at Rock Creek Lutheran, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. (Nora born January 20, 1909 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa to Martin Hannanias Maakestad and Emelia Nicolene Himle Nelson, died November 25, 1975 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa. )

The couple had 5 children, all born at Osage, Iowa: Elizabeth Jane (b April 15, 1930, d October 16, 2004 Flanagan, Livingston, Illinois); Marlys Jean (b February 6, 1932, d August 7, 1947 Mason City, Cerro Gordo, Iowa); Kathleen Anna (b March 27, 1934, d July 3, 2010 Manly, Worth, Iowa); Gary Lee and Richard Kenneth..

Found in the 1930, 1940 censuses living at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa:
1930: Kenneth L Klemesrud 21, Nora B Klemesrud 21.
1940: Kenneth Klemesrud 31, Nora Klemesrud 31, Elisabeth Klemesrud 9, Marlys Klemesrud 8, Kathleen Klemesrud 6, Grady Sorlie 3.

Served in the US Navy in mid-1940's. Kenneth and Nora bought the Meroa General store from Mrs. May Klemesrud in 1946, then sold it in the late summer of 1947 to Loren Smith who operated it until closing in 1953. For a while, Kenneth was a foreman at the rock quarry near Meroa.

After Nora's death, Kenneth married Candace Calma (Olsen) Prewett on September 10, 1976 at Reno, Washoe, Nevada. (Candace born September 3, 1913 Mitchell, Iowa to Lawrence Henry Olsen and Olga Amanda Krogstad, d August 21, 1985 Stacyville, Mitchell, Iowa.) The couple lived at Osage, Iowa.

Kenneth died May 21, 1987 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and is buried at the RCLC Cemetery, Meroa, Iowa.
