Francis Lowell “Frank” Horsfall

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Francis “Frank” Lowell Horsfall, 60, of Carpenter, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013, in Denver, Colorado, of natural causes while working for the Union Pacific Railroad.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday Oct. 12, at Deer Creek Church in Carpenter, with a lunch at the church following the service. Visitation will from 5-7 p.m. at Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar, on Friday, October 11. There will be a private graveside service at a later time.

Frank was born in Osage, on May 18, 1953, the third son of Harvey and Emma Lois (Trantanella) Horsfall of St. Ansgar. He was a member of the graduating class at St. Ansgar High School in 1971.

Frank began work July 14, 1977 for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad which later became the Union Pacific Railroad. Over his 36 years as an employee he met and worked with many hard-working, wonderful people who became like a second family, and considered him the “kind giant”. He enjoyed a number of pastimes including fishing, working on motorcycles, filling the basement with model trains, traveling to destinations with his wife, getting together with his friends in the Oldsmobile car club, visiting his own and Susan’s children and grandchildren, picking up flea market finds, and collecting old Oldsmobile cars as projects for his future retirement which he sadly did not reach.

Frank married Susan (Rosenberg) Horsfall on January 21, 2000, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He is also survived by daughters Elisha Horsfall of Springville, Iowa, and Jenny (Nate) Canier of LeClaire, Iowa, from his first marriage to Elizabeth (King) Maly, step-sons Eric (Hope) Buntrock of Austin, Minnesota, and Cory (Ashley) Buntrock of Lakeville, Minnesota, his parents Harvey and Lois Horsfall, Brothers Stan (Carol)Horsfall and Harvey (Becky) Horsfall, sister Linda (Samuel) Kruse, their families, friends, neighbors, and many others who loved and appreciated everything he did for them.

He will be especially missed by grandchildren Emmett Canier, Wyatt Canier, Lauren Buntrock and Sophia Buntrock who always looked forward to spending time with grandpa.

Frank was preceded in death by grandparents Clarence and Lydia (Hollatz) Horsfall; Michael and Arvesta (Gannon) Trantanella, his brother Edward in 1954 and his sister Mary in 2003.
