OSAGE, IOWA - Services for Edwin Horgen, 85, who died Sunday at the Mitchell County Home, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Champion Funeral Home in Osage. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Survivors include grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Edwin Rudolph Horgen was born July 1, 1889 at Lincoln, Mitchell, Iowa to Gulbrand​ Halvorsen Horgen & Ingeborg Petersdatter, the fourth of their ten children. He was baptized on August 11, 1889 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

1895: Edwin Hargen age 5.
1900: Gilbert Horgan 41, Isabel Horgan 40, Henry Horgan 18, Melvin Horgan 13, Edwin Horgan 10, Cora Horgan 7, Ingvall Horgan 4, Gilmer Horgan 2, Ottelei Horgan 1.

Found in the 1910 census at West Lincoln, Mitchell, Iowa (same farm): Gilbert H Horgan 51, Isabelle P Horgan 50, Melvin B Horgan 23, Edwin R Horgan 20, Cora G Horgan 17[19], Ingwal S Horgan 4[14], Gillman E Horgan 12, Amanda C Horgan 11, Oscar Horgan, 7 Clarence A Horgan 5, Martha K Horgan 73.

Edwin married Thea Olga Lundene on June 7, 1913 at Mitchell, Iowa.

The couple had 5 children: Glendon Aldis; Marvelyn Eileen; Kenneth Edwin, Theresa Lucille and Virgil Duane.

1920: Edwin R Horgen 30, Thea O Horgen 28, Glendon A Horgen 5, Marvelin E Horgen 1 yr 2 mos.

Found in the 1925 census at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa: Ed Hengen 35, Theaolda Herig 33, Glenhon Herigan 10, Marerlyn Herigan 6, Kenus Herigan 4.

Edwin suffered from mental illness and was hospitalized in 1930 at Independence, Buchanan Co, Iowa, and later at a nursing home in Colwell, Iowa.

Found in the 1930, 1940 censuses at Washington, Buchanan, Iowa:
1930: Edwin R Hargen age 40.
1940: Edwin Horgen 50.

Edwin R. Horgen died October 1974 in either Mitchell or Floyd county, Iowa, and is buried ​at the Osage Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.
