Aad (Odd) Nielsen Himle was born December 1, 1805, at the Himle farm, Voss (or Vossvangen), Hordaland, Norway to Niels Aadsen Himle and Brita Bjornsdatter. Birth/baptismal record found in the Norwegian Digital Archives on line for Voss, Hordaland, Norway; 1780-1810; page 231, 3rd entry from top (hard to decipher) either the birth or the baptism was on December 1, 1801, the first day of Advent; Father is Niels Aadsen, mother is Brita Bjornsdatter, both living at Himle farm; Baptismal sponsors: Torger Pedersen Olde; Tosten Bjornssen Herre; Knud Aadsen Himle; Inga Baarsdatter Olde; Ragna Amundsdatter Himle.

Aad (or Odd in America) was confirmed on June 24, 1821 at Voss, Hordaland, Norway. Confirmation record found in the Norwegian Digital Archives on line for Voss, Hordaland, Norway; 1815-1827; page 244, entry # 7 Aad Nielsen Himle age 16.

Aad married Brithe Johannesdatter on June 11, 1832 at Voss, Hordaland, Norway. Wedding record found in the Norwegian Digital Archives on line for Voss, Hordaland, Norway, 1823-1837; page 302, entry #21 (first at top of page): Aad Nielsen Himle age 27 (groom) and Brithe Johannesdatter age 28 (bride). Groom's father: Niels Addsen Himle. Bride's father: Johannes Olsen Nighne (hard to decipher)

The couple had four children all born at Voss, Hordaland, Norway:
Brita Oddsdatter (born October 28, 1832);
Randvi Maria Oddsdatter (born February 4, 1836);
Niels Oddsen (born October 16, 1841, married Inga Ivarsdatter Syse, died March 9, 1911 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa) and
Inger Oddsdatter (born April 17, 1847).

Odd and his family left Norway to emigrate to Wisconsin settling on a farm. Family found in the Norwegian Digital Archives on-line for Voss, Hordaland, Norway 1845-1855: page 97 (right side of page), entries # 16-21: Odd Nielsen Himle age 47; wife Brithe Johannesdatter age 48; Children: Britha age 20; Randvei age 16; Niels age 11; Inger age 5 - leaving Voss, Hordaland Norway on May 11, 1852.

Family next found on passenger list from Norway to U.S. Port of Departure: Bergen, Norway. Arrival Date: July 16, 1852; Port of Arrival: New York, New York, U.S. on Ship "Bjorgiven". Traveled on to Wisconsin. Ole, born 1805, age 47; Brite born 1804, age 48; Brite born 1833, age 19; Maria age 17, born 1835; Inger age 5, born 1847; Niels age 10, born 1842. (Note-dates do not exactly coincide, probably due to communication between Norwegian and English.)

Family found in the 1860 census living at Leeds, Columbia, Wisconsin: Odd Nelson 54, Betsey Nelson 55, Maria Nelson 24, Nels Nelson 19, Inger Nelson 13.

Sometime between 1860 and 1870, the family moved west to a farm in Iowa.

Found in the 1870 census living at Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa: Wdd (Aad) Nelson 60, Betsey Nelson 55, Eugner (Inger?) Nelson 32, Alina Eleson 3.

Odd Nielsen Himle died March 13, 1871 at Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa and was buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. Burial record found in the St Ansgar First Lutheran Church records in Rev. C. L. Clausen's notes entitled "Early Burials at RCLC" (found under cemeteries at Mitchell Co Gen Web).
