Knud Olsen Haugen was born May 11, 1842 at Aadalen, Buskerud, Norway to Ole Knudsen Haugen and Kari Olsdatter, the oldest of their four children. He had one brother, Ole and two sisters: Jorand and Ragnild. Knud was baptized on June 12, 1842. Birth/baptismal record found in the Norwegian Digital Archives online for Viker in Adal, Buskerud, Norway, 1840-1861, pg 6, entry # 46; five sponsors listed.

His family left Norway to emigrate to Green, Wisconsin on April 27, 1852.

Knud married Gjertrud Olsdatter Levordsen on March 27, 1868 at Green, Wisconsin. The couple had 4 sons: Olaus (June 21, 1869-1957); Oscar (April 1872-April 20, 1952); Carl (June 13 1876-May 4, 1959) and Oliver (September 30, 1880-December 14, 1963).

In 1875, the family moved to a farm in the heart of Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa and Knud built a house that is still standing in 2013.

Knud died March 26th (or 24th?), 1926 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at the Osage City Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.
