WATERLOO, IOWA — Frank Heinick, 81, of 1821 Byron Avenue, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.

He was born September 24, 1919, in Osage, IA; son of Harry and Elenora Bilek Hynik. He married Lorraine May Schneider June 2, 1946, at the First Congregational Church in Waterloo. He was employed in the city of Waterloo Fire Department from 1946 to 1972, retiring due to disability. He was also employed with People's Hardware Store for 20 years, retiring in 1981.

He was a highly decorated veteran of World War II, with the 89th Signal Corps, serving in the African and European Theatres. He was among the allied troops who made it through the Kasserine Pass, ahead of the enemy.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary L. Heinick and his wife, Debbie of Waterloo; two daughters, Nancy J. Heinick of Waterloo and Janice M. Akin and her husband Ethan of Waterloo; grandchildren: Amy and Sara Heinick, both of Cedar Falls, Emily Heinick of Waterloo and Abbey, Adam, and Andrew Akin, all of Waterloo; and his brother, John Heinick of St. Petersburg. FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Joseph Heinick and Harry Heinick; and a sister, Mary O'Rourke.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 24 at First Congregational Church, with burial in Quasqueton Cemetery, Quasqueton, where military rites will be conducted by Cedar Rock American Legion.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and for an hour before services at the church.

Memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Hospice Home, First Congregational Church or to the family.
