CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - James T. Smith, 75, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away on July 5, 2013 at his home. Jim’s wishes were to be cremated.

Memorial services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, with Rev. Steve Garner officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Riceville with military rites being conducted by the Roy Gue Post 244 of the American Legion. A luncheon will be served following the services.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be given to the St. Luke’s Hospice in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Jim was born on January 4, 1938 at home to Bill and Ella Smith in Riceville, Iowa. He graduated from Riceville High School and joined the Army in 1957 where he served two years, mostly in Korea. Jim came home and married his high school sweetheart Connie Peyton in May of 1961. They had three children, Jeff (Martha), Joel (Lin), and John (Karen). They were blessed with six grandchildren and one great-grandchild who were all the love of his life. He has one surviving sister Margaret Fox and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bill & Ella, brothers: Jerome, Bill, Ed and Mike and one sister Mary Alice Buttolph and several brothers & sisters-in-law.
