Maude Ethel (Hatfield) Scammon – February 9, 1874 – August 19, 1953
MATRON, 79, DIES AT BILLINGS HOME
Mrs. Maude Ethel Scammon, 79, wife of George R. Scammon of 45 Jefferson St., died at the family home at 5 a.m. Wednesday. She had been in failing health since suffering a stroke four years ago.
Mrs. Scammon, a resident of Billings the last 11 years, was born February 9, 1874, at Osage, Iowa. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Hatfield. She was married to Mr. Scammon at Red Wing, Minnesota on October 11, 1903.
The couple came to Montana in 1908, settling at Wibaux. In 1926, they moved to Laurel, where they lived until going to Livingston in 1940. They moved from Livingston to Billings in 1942.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Scammon is survived by three sons; Gordon L. Scammon of roundup; Joseph Gerald Scammon of Silesia; and Orin E. Scammon of Wilsall; a daughter, Mrs. Phillip Keefer of Fromberg; a sister; Mrs. Pearl Cole of Franklin, Indiana; 16 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Smith’s Chapel with the Rev. Harold E Tannehill of the Church of the Open Door at Laurel officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
