Msgr. Francis D. Heimerman, age 93, of Nashua, Iowa, died Saturday evening, January 5, 2013, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Rev. Francis D. Heimerman, 93 of Nashua, Iowa, died Saturday evening, January 5, 2013, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 9, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Nashua, with Rev. Monsignor Lyle L. Wilgenbusch celebrating the Mass. Homilist will be Rev. Monsignor John W. Hemann. Interment will be in Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville.

Friends may greet the family from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Nashua, where there will be a 3 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. parish scripture service. Visitation continues beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Rev. Francis DeSales Heimerman was born September 1, 1919, in Haverhill, the son of Anton and Magdalen (Ginsterblum) Heimerman. At an early age, the Heimerman family moved to Stacyville. He received his education at Visitation Grade School and Visitation High School graduating in 1935 at the age of 16. He then graduated from Loras College, Dubuque, and St. Paul Seminary, St. Paul, Minn.

He was ordained on April 29, 1944, and had his first Mass at his home parish in Stacyville. Father's first assignment after ordination was as an associate at St. Raphael Cathedral, Dubuque from 1944-1949 and was then an associate at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City until 1956. He then served both St. Joseph Catholic Churches in State Center and Rhodes.

In 1966, he was assigned as pastor at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Alta Vista, until 1973. From 1973 until 1982, he served as pastor at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg, Iowa. His final pastorate was at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Nashua from 1982 until retiring in 1991. Following his retirement, Father continued to serve his church part-time in the area. He continued to be active in the community enjoying golfing, walks and visits with friends.

Survivors include two sisters, Mary Rose Laliberte of Fargo, N.D., and Ruth (Byron) Spear of Albert Lea, Minn.; two brothers, Wilbur Heimerman of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Quentin (Sally) Heimerman of Stillwater, Minn.; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Matthew Heimerman and one sister, Rita Alley.
