Ione Edna Johnson
Ione Edna Johnson, the daughter of John and Alma (Petersen) Zaiser, was born in Harrison Township, Osceola County on a farm July 1, 1919. She grew up on the family farm with her sister and brother, attended country school and went on to further her education graduating from Hartley High School with the class of 1936. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa getting her teaching certificate. Upon returning to Hartley she taught in the local country schools. In later years she worked as a Teachers Aid at the Hartley School.
She was united in marriage to Elmer F. Johnson on August 9, 1940. They lived in Hartley; Bellevue, Nebraska; Royal and on various farms in the Hartley area. They were blessed with three children: Judy, Jean and James. In 1967 they moved to Hartley. They enjoyed many years of traveling, camping and fishing in the Sutherland and Lakes area. Elmer passed away on May of 1995. Ione moved to the Community Assisted Living in 2006 where she resided until her death on Thursday, May 23, 2013. One of her greatest joys was having made afghans and tie quilts for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and crocheted hundreds of hanging kitchen hand towels and hot pads. She also enjoyed playing cards, reading, collecting angels and dominoes with her friends.
Ione was a member of the United Church of Christ where she was a member of the Dorcas Society and taught Sunday School and Bible School.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Judy and husband, Ed Kramme, of Osage, Jean and husband, Ron Reimann of Shell Lake, Wis. and James and wife, Colleen of Sutherland; seven grandchildren: Robin Kettwick, Marci (Mike) DeMaris, Todd Kramme, Matt Reimann, Sara (Peter) Ducos, Darin (Jenny) Johnson, Sonya (Judd) Duhn; 17 great grandchildren: Chris, Abby, Brandon (Erin), Chad, Jordan, Amber, Cody, Emily, Kayla, Julia, Tate, Dante, Jasper, Brennan, Keaton, Lexi, and Paxton; one great-great-grandchild, Kaydah; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; her parents; sister, Helen and husband, Eldo (Hap) Scharnberg; brother, Marvin Zaiser and wife, Helen and grandson-in-law, Darvin Kettwick.
