Funeral services for Jovita Mercedes Meirick, 66, of San Diego, Calif, and formerly of New Haven, Elma and Waterloo, Iowa, were held in San Diego. She died on Tuesday, September 23, 1986 at her home in California.

She was born on August 14, 1920, the daughter of Joe and Helen Meirick. She served 30 years as a Sister of Mercy in Cedar Rapids and was principal of St. John's and St. Nicholas Schools in Waterloo from 1968 to 1974. She moved to San Diego in 1975.

Survivors include three sisters: Millie Kuhn, Edna McArthur and Virginia Baker; and a brother, Carl.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Dora Schweiger and three brothers, Paul, Walter and Herbert.
