Jeffrey Jay Fredericks (1966 - 1984)

OSAGE, IOWA - Jeffery Fredericks, 17, son of Gerald and Donna Fredericks of rural Osage, drowned about 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the site of the Mitchell dam on the Cedar River, five miles northwest of Osage.

Fredericks, who was swimming with two companions, John Pint Jr., of Mitchell, and Anthony Huebsch of Osage, reportedly dove into the river below the dam and never surfaced. His body was recovered about 7 p.m. Saturday through the efforts of the Winnebago County Rescue Squad of Forest City; Cerro Gordo Divers Rescue Unit of Mason City; Mitchell County Sheriffs officers; the Osage Volunteer Fire Department; and the Iowa State Highway Patrol.

According to Mitchell County Sheriff Richard E. Jahnel the strong current below the dam kept Fredericks from surfacing.

He was a 1984 graduate of the Osage Community Schools.

Champion Funeral Home in Osage is in charge of arrangements.

OSAGE, IOWA — Services for Jeffrey Fredericks, 17, of Osage, who died Saturday in a drowning accident on the Cedar River near the Mitchell Dam, will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Osage; burial in Osage Cemetery.

He is survived by his parents, Gerald and Donna Fredericks; two sisters, Sandra Adams of Osage and DeeAnn Fredericks of Ames; four brothers, Wayne of Osage, Alan and Ivan, both of Northwood, and Bill of Rudd; and paternal grandmother, Mrs. Nellie Fredericks of Osage.

Jeffrey was a 1984 graduate of Osage High School, a state tournament qualifer in wrestling and an all-conference football player; he also was a member of the high school band, Future Farmers of America and 4-H.

Friends may call Monday at Champion Funeral Home in Osage.
