AMES, IOWA — Robert George Riehm, 69, of Ames and formerly of Carpenter, died on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar, Iowa.
The family is planning a private family service. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.
Robert was born on June 8, 1943, in Mason City, to O.K. and Laura (McPeak) Riehm. He graduated from the Carpenter High School, Carpenter, in 1961. He joined the U.S. Navy, serving his country for 25 years. Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking and canning. He had fond memories of playing near Deer Creek. Robert was a member of the Walter T. Ennenberg Post No. 358 of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grand parents; three brothers-in-law, Al Levenhagen, Bill Harrington and Melvin Wilde; one sister-in-law, Beverly Riehm.
Robert is survived by a son, Robert G. Riehm II of Scottsdale, Arizona; daughter Jolie S. Riehm of Denver, Colorado; one brother, Glenn Riehm of Apache Junction, Arizona; five sisters, Beverly Levenhagen of Mason City, Shirley Wilde of Osage, Marilyn Harrington of Mason City, Barbara (Bill) DeKruif of Garner, and Marlys (Aaron) Thurnau of St. Ansgar; and many nieces and nephews.
