AUSTIN -- The funeral for Corbie Van McFarland will be 2 p.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. Don Deines officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Military Rites by VFW Post 1216 in Austin.

Mr. McFarland, 82, of 1926 Fourth Ave. N.W., a retired Hormel employee, died Thursday (Feb. 12, 1998) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
He was born Nov. 16, 1915, in Wadena, Minn. On Sept. 18, 1943, he married Marie Hawkins at St. Olaf Parish. Mr. McFarland was a member of the Eagles, and 12th Armored Division, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include a brother, Noble of Exeland, Wis., and a sister Elizabeth Houdek of Cedar Falls, Iowa. A brother preceded him in death.
Friend may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home in Austin, and at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Corbie Van McFarland was born in Minnesota, the son of John Robert McFarland and Amy Viola VanDeventer.

His father and mother were divorced before the 1930 Census and she remarried to Edward Grossnickel.

His father and brother Gar Robert McFarland are buried in the Osage Cemetery, Mitchell County, Iowa.

In 1920 the family was living in Minnesota and in 1930 the children were living with their father in Rock, Mitchell, Iowa
