Aloysius “Aloys” May

October 17, 1891 – October 27, 1920

Aloys May age 28, was kicked in the chest by a horse while working on the farm. The doctor operated on him right on the kitchen table but he only lived a few days.

According to the family story, his son Clarence May had a memory of the surgery although he was only 2 years old at the time. Aloys lived a few days and was able to tell Mary that she should buy a house in Stacyville, which she did. She remarried later to William Gerber.

Aloysius May was born October 17, 1891 in Mitchell County, Iowa, the son of Henry May and Anna (Hemann) May. He died October 27, 1920 and was buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meyer, Mitchell, Iowa.

He married Mary Sybilla Puettman, the daughter of Joseph Puettman and Agnes (Ostendorf) Puettman.

After the death of Aloysius, his wife Mary remarried to William Gerber. She was born May 20, 1896 in Iowa and died March 23, 1959 in Minnesota. She was buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Adams, Mower County, Minnesota.

Aloysius and Mary had one son Clarence Joseph May who was born August 23, 1918. He died November 5, 1999.
