Funeral services were held Saturday at Nashua, Iowa, in the Methodist church, for Mrs. Louisa Barr, 89, who died Thursday at her home in Nashua. She had been in bed, suffering from a broken hip for several months. Mrs. Barr is a sister of Lester Bement and Mrs. Alex Turnmire of Osage. She has operated the Barr Cafe in Nashua for several years.

FOR MRS. BARR

Funeral services for Mrs. Louisa Barr, 90, were held at the Methodist church Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock with the Rev. E. C. Allen officiating.

Miss Ethel Hammond accompanied Mrs. C. A. Hoon and Mrs. E. L. Estal as they sang. Flower ladies were Mrs. Maude Emmons and Mrs. Elmer Powers. Pallbearers were Nels Huyltyed Sr., Russel Pierce, Sr.; Roy Barnwell, Dale Coates, Lee Hamond and Russell Staley. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Louisa Bement Barr, daughter of Albert and Charity Bement, was born February 22, 1859, one of a family of 10, at Ithaca, New York. She came, when a small child, with her parents to Plainfield, later coming to Nashua where the rest of her life as spent. Since breaking her hip February 2 of last year, her health had gradually failed and she passed away Thursday morning at the Jordan Convalescent Home.

On February 11, 1891, she was married at Charles City to Thomas Barr. To this union, two daughters were born, (Leta) Mr. Al Stevenson of Nashua and (Ruth) Mrs. Emil Betlach of Austin, Minnesota.

Another who was like a daughter; Lorraine Savener Carpenter of San Antonio, Texas, came to the home when a baby and received the tender care of this loving mother.

Mrs. Barr was preceded in death by her husband June 15, 1933.

She leaves to mourn her death the three daughters; two granddaughters; Mrs. Betty Lou Stevenson Maeby of Charles City and Mrs. Bette Ruth Holman Geise of Oceanside, California; a great-granddaughter, Patricia Lou Maeby; and a great-grandson, Michael Geise; one sister; Mrs. Alzina Turnmire; and one brother; Lester Bement, both of Osage.

She was a member of the former Baptist Church of Nashua and later attended the Methodist Church. She had the distinction of being the oldest member of the Relief Corps.

She was engaged in the restaurant business for nearly 20 years and was always willing and ready to do her part until her health failed.

Out of town friends and relatives here to attend the funeral were from Austin, Minnesota; Charles City; Osage; Oelwein; Cedar Falls; Plainsfield; and Elma.
