LEON STIRL BALDWIN – January 27, 1900 – March 15, 1940
Leon Stirl Baldwin was born in Floyd County, Iowa, Jan. 27, 1900, and died Friday, March 15, at 2:02 a.m. at the age of 40 years, one month and 17 days, following an operation for ruptured appendix.
He came to Barron County with his parents at the age of seven years and resided here until his death. He was married March 16, 1921, to Wilma Mae Alexander and nine children were born to their union: Leona (Mrs. Lowell Smith), Lorene, Eleanor, Robert, Richard, Leon Junior and Harry, all at home and two daughters who died in infancy.
Besides his immediate family he leaves his father, W. O. Baldwin and stepmother of Arland, three brothers, Leonard of Schurz, Nev., Milton and Elmer of Orchard, Iowa, a half brother Amos of Maple Grove, a stepbrother, George Smith of Arland, five sisters, Pearl (Mrs. Alvin Norelius) of Rice Lake, Alta of Orchard, Iowa, Myrtie (Mrs. Albert Olson) of Poskin, Bertha (Mrs. Lewis Gillett) of Weyerhaeuser, Mabel (Mrs. Luther Prine) of Maple Grove, a stepsister, Alberta of Rice Lake, besides other relatives and friends. His mother and a half brother, Clarence, preceded him in death.
He was a loving and dear husband and father, a cherished friend and neighbor and a true Christian at heart.
Funeral services were held on Monday from his home and the First Baptist church of Barron, with burial at Wayside cemetery, the Rev. M. Wessman of Red Wing, Minn., officiating. Pallbearers were Martin Thorsbakken, Emmit Johnson, Otis Berger, Lyle O'Flanagan, George Schmidt, and Floyd Martin, and flower girls were June Gaare and Francis Berger. Relatives from away who attended the funeral were Elmer and Milton Baldwin and sister, Alta, all of Orchard, Iowa, and Henry Alexander of Baraboo. Note* the family lived in Floyd County and Mitchell County before moving to Barron County, Wisconsin.
He was the son of William Odell Baldwin and Eva May (Underwood) Baldwin.
