Jason O. Eckert – October 8, 1918 – February 16, 2004

Jason O. Eckert, 85, Austin, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at St. Marks Lutheran Home.

He was born Oct. 8, 1918, in Otranto, Iowa, to Ross and Effie (Tunmore) Eckert.

He attended school in Otranto, then farmed with his father until joining the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943. He returned to farm again until 1947.

On Nov. 25, 1948, he married Irene Gustafson at the Presbyterian Church in Effie, Minn. Jason worked in northern Minnesota before returning to Iowa to farm. In 1954, they moved to Hollandale, where Jason worked for the Hollandale Marketing Association. They moved to Albert Lea in 1974. Irene died in 1978 and Jason moved to Austin in 1983.

He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Austin, the Conservative Congregational Church in Hollandale, and American Legion. He was also a volunteer driver for SEMCAC.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Ramona and Michael Spence, Dallas, Texas; Nancy and Greg Weimer, Winona Lake, Ind.; sons and daughter-in-law, Jason Jr. and Julie Eckert , Albert Lea; Ronald Eckert, Apple Valley; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; sister, Lillian Johnson, St. Ansgar, Iowa; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers and three sisters.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at the mortuary and Friday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 1:30 p.m. Friday at Grace Baptist Church with Pastors Gordon Larson and William Bankester officiating. Casket bearers will be Joshua Eckert, Jeremie Eckert, Jim Eckert, Dan Madison, Dave Madison and Gil Wambeam.

Interment: Hillcrest Cemetery, Albert Lea, with military rites by Austin Post #91 American Legion.

Funeral Home: Clasen-Jordan Mortuary, Austin.

Memorials: To Grace College, 200 Seminary Dr., Winona Lake, IN 46590
