SERVICES HELD FOR ISAAC THON
RITES CONDUCTED AT NORTHWOOD CHAPELBolan – Funeral services for Isaac Thon, 79, who died at his home at Bolan Friday, following an illness of about a year, were held at the Conner Funeral Home at Northwood Monday afternoon with the Rev. L. V. McEleney pastor of the Evangelical church of Bolan, conducting the services.
He spent the last 53 years of his life on the farm upon which he broke virgin soil.Mr. Thon was born at St. Ansgar, December 7 1864, son of Isabel and Iver K. Thon. He moved with his parents to a farm near Bolan and as a boy herded cattle on the open prairie. He attended Cedar Valley seminary at Osage and was confirmed in the Norwegian Lutheran Church.
On December 23, 1894, he was married to Christina Holmen of Kensett, who died February 8, 1918. A daughter, Belva Pauline, died in infancy.
Surviving Mr. Thon are 7 children; Mrs. B. L. McCready, Plymouth; Edgar of Austin, Minnesota; Mrs. C. L. Thomas, Albert Lea, Minnesota; Eunice of Mason City; Mrs. D. E. Taylor, Norris, Tennessee; Mrs. S. A. Cooper, Cedar Rapids; and Mrs. S. W. Lester of Port Lavoca, Texas, and 13 grandchildren.
Besides his immediate family he is survived by 3 sisters; Mrs. Bertha Wambeam, Waterloo; Mrs. Carrie Culbertson of Carpenter; and Mrs. Annie Culbertson of Northwood; and a brother; Charlie Thon, Spokane, Washington.
Burial was at the Kensett Cemetery, with the Masonic Lodge, of which he was an active member at Northwood, in charge of services.
