MITCHELL, IOWA — Joseph Mostek, age 90, of Mitchell, Iowa, died Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Msgr. John Hemann officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a scripture wake service at 7 p.m.
Joe was born September 30, 1922, in Mitchell, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Anna (Krapa) Mostek. He lived in this area his entire life except for the time he spent serving in the U.S. Army during World War II in Saipan in the Mariana Islands. On May 15, 1948, he married Helen Lois Houghtaling. Joe did bridge construction, carpentry work, and operated a scrap yard. He also drove school bus for Osage Community Schools for 19 years. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, hunting, trapping, and making and collecting Indian arrowheads.
Joe is survived by his wife, Lois Mostek of Mitchell; four daughters, Marcia (Ron) Crysler of Canton, Ga., Maureen (Bernard) Havlovic of Lewis, Connie (Herbert) Chapman of Chicago, Ill., Julieanne (Mark) Kuhl of Lake Bluff, Ill.; three sons, Joseph A. Mostek of Osage, James Mostek and Daniel Mostek, both of Mitchell; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Mindy Meyerhofer in 1997; five sisters and four brothers.
