OSAGE YOUTH GIVES LIFE TO COUNTRY

Osage – Mr. and Mrs. Joe Frein, Osage, received official word from the war department Friday that their son, Pfc. Jerome Frein, 23, died October 1, in Italy. No particulars were disclosed, but were to be given in a subsequent letter.

Jerome Frein, a technician 5th grade, was a paratrooper. He went into service January 2, 1942, and has been in Africa, with the invasion forces in Siely, thence to Italy. The last letter from him came in September.

Cpl. Donald Frein was stationed in Italy but 5 miles from his brother, but had not seen him, according to letters written home. The boys had exchanged letters and were hoping to see one another. The last letter from Cpl. Donald Frein, in the 34th division, Iowa National Guard, stated he had not heard from his brother for some time.

Jerome Frein was the 2nd child in a family of 11; 6 brothers, 2 sisters, and his parents survive.
