Mrs. Guri Tollefson Skolt was born in Hemsedal, Norway, December 21, 1834. She was married to Ole Tollefson Blakkestad in 1855. Mr. and Mrs. Tollefson were blessed with seven children, five of whom survive her and are well known residents of Newburg township.
Shortly before they had intedned to emigrate to America in 1885, Mr. Tollefson was suddenly taken ill with pneumonia. He died after a sickness of eight days duration. Mrs. Tollefson has been failing for four years. Her disease later developed to be cancer of the stomach. Her sufferings were especially great the last eight weeks. But she received strength from the saviour whom she professed, to suffer patiently. She died quietly Sunday morning, June 26. The funeral was held at the N.L. church, June 26, and was largely attended, Rev. Waldeland officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the N.L. cemetery north of town.
Those from abroad who attended the funeral were, Mrs. Henry Johnson and son, from Gordonsville, Minn.; Mrs. K. Christian, from Northwood, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. N.O. Belson of Deer Creek, Iowa; Mrs. Iver Johnson, Mrs. Tollefson's brother from Corning, Minn.; and C.P. Jorgensen, from Nora Springs, Iowa.
