RICEVILLE, IOWA - Pauline T. Mans, 97, of Riceville, died Monday, December 3, 2012, at the Riceville Family Care & Therapy Center.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville with Father Steve Garner and Father Bernie Grady officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Riceville.

Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Monday, Dec. 10, during the hours of 4 to 7 p.m. and one hour before services at the church.

A rosary service will be held at 5 p.m. and a scripture service at 6:30 on Monday at the funeral home.

Obituary:

Pauline T. Mans, 97 of Riceville passed away on Monday, December 3, 2012 at the Riceville Family Care & Therapy Center. Pauline (Pelagia) Bieniek, Was born on December 21, 1914, to Joseph and Agnes Bieniek, on a farm near Holdingford, Minnesota. Her parents were immigrants from Poland, and English was never spoken in the home. Pauline attended the rural school at Arban and graduated from Holdingford High School in 1932. She attended the C of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, MN and graduated in 1936. After graduation Polly taught in Centerville and Randolph, MN, teaching sciences, coaching, and being principal.

She married Reinhart Mans, a native of Mankato, on June 10, 1944, and the couple moved to McIntire in 1945 where Reinhart was a night telegrapher for the railroad. The couple moved to Riceville in the late 40’s. They were the parents of three sons.

Polly commuted to Randolph their first year of marriage, then became an at-home Mother. She was a church volunteer, teaching religion and being active in the Rosary Society. In 1959 Polly began teaching at Riceville High School, where she taught French, biology, and chemistry for eighteen years, retiring in 1977. In retirement she devoted her time to taking care of her husband, Reiny, and gardening and raking.

Survivors include her children, John (Ellen), of Riceville, Dennis (Alice), of Maquoketa and Tom (Mary Kay), of Silver City, MD, plus four grandchildren, Jeremy, Janine, Rachel, and Caitlin Mans and two great-grandchildren, Eric and Bridget Mans. Also surviving are one sister, Sister Joel Bieniek, OSF, of Little Falls, MN, one brother, Stephen Bieniek of Sartell, MN, and a sister-in-law Dorothy Rieniek, of Inver Grove Heights, MN.

Polly was preceded in death by her husband Reinhart in 1997, a grandson Jesse Mans, seven brothers, (John, Theophil, Alois, Joseph, Peter, Sylvester, and Walter) and four sisters (Mary Mathe, Sister Vianney, OSB, Sister Giovanni, OSB, and Sister Mary Grace, OSF.)

4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, December 10, 2012
5 pm Rosary Service
6:30 pm Parish Scripture Service
