[NOTE:Born i Gal, Hallingal- should read: Gol, Hallingdal (Hallingdal valley is in Buskerud county)

Thor K. Thorson was born May 3, 1848 in Gal, Hallingal, Norway. His parents were Knut and Sonneva Thorson. He was baptized by Rev. Kerulf.

In 1865 he, together with his parents, brother and sisters emigrated to America. Their ocean voyage was a long, tedious one of seven weeks duration. After landing in America they came westward as far as Mitchell county, Iowa, where they established a home in Newburg township, about four miles northwest of St. Ansgar.

Mr. Thorson was united in marriage with Carrie Tuff, April 19, 1881. This union was blessed with four children, Clarence, at home: Cornelia Louisa, who died in infancy; Luella, now Mrs. Elmer Erickson of Pulaski, Wis., and Selma, at home. After living in Newburg township for a number of years, they moved to the present home in Otranto township where they have lived for the past thirty years.

Mr. Thorson was a member of the N.L. church at St. Ansgar ever since his arrival here. The Word of God was ever dear to him.

About six years ago he developed what later proved to be that fatal disease, cancer. For a time it seemed that he was cured but the disease broke out again and when he sought medical aid again nothing could be done for him. During the last four months preceding his death he was bed ridden and suffered considerably, but in spite of all his suffering he was patient to the last and ever put his trust in Him who is our only shield and weapon. A few days before his death his lungs began to fill up and pneumonia developed which finnally relieved his suffering. He passed peacefully away about two o'clock Monday morning, June 27, 1927 at the age of 79 years, 1 month and 24 days.

Besides his wife and children before mentioned, he leaves to mourn his loss three grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. John Gunderson and Mrs. John Wiger, both of St. Ansgar, and numerous other relatives. A sister and two brothers besides his parents have preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the N.L. church, the Rev. M.E. Waldeland officiating and the remains laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery.
