Lloyd "Shorty" Counsell

(Died October 30, 2012)

Lloyd “Shorty” Counsell, age 89, of Osage, died suddenly Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center Emergency Room in Osage.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Msgr. John Hemann officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 5:00 p.m. Following the funeral Mass, cremation will take place with inurnment at Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date.

He was born May 13, 1923, on the family farm in Burr Oak Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, the son of Harriet (Strong) and Lloyd Counsell, Sr. Shorty graduated from Osage High School in 1940. On June 21, 1944, he married Adelaide Neis at Sacred Heart Church in Meyer. He worked at the Stacyville Creamery, farmed near Stacyville, worked at Oliver in Charles City and at the Little Cedar, Nora Springs and Osage Elevators, retiring in 1988. Shorty was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family.

Shorty is survived by his wife, Adelaide Counsell of Osage; one son, Dan (Linda) Counsell of Climax, Minnesota, two daughters, Janice Henson of Conyers, Georgia, Elizabeth “B.J.” (Ron) Douglas of Orchard; seven grandchildren, Tina Rohwedder, Travis Counsell, Julie Vermillion, Tony Volpe, Tammy Conners, Jennifer Jo Douglas, Joshua Douglas; 17 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Owen “Bud” (Mary Alice) Counsell of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin sons, Michael John and Mark Frederick; one sister, Barbara Counsell; two brothers, Maurice “Skip” Counsell and Bob Counsell; and his son-in-law, Rodney “Bud” Henson.
