The death of Ole Syverud, which occurred last Sunday morning after a number of weeks' illness, removed from St. Ansgar the man who had been the longest continuously in business in the town. When the writer came to St. Ansgar more than thirty years ago Mr. Syverud was already one of the well established business men and he has continued in business in the same building and the same place until the time ill health compelled him to quit, a few weeks ago. It was nearly thirty-five years ago that he first engaged in business here.

Death has followed the Syverud family relentlessly for the past year and a half. A year ago last October John died here in St. Ansgar. The next September Peter died in North Dakota and the remains were brought here for burial. The obituaries of Ole and his sister, Mrs. Nordbo, are both published in this copy of the Enterprise.

THE OBITUARY OF OLE A. SYVERUD

Ole A. Syverud was born in Blue Mounds township, Dane county, Wisconsin, May 19, 1861. His parents were Nels and Beret Syverud. In 1869 he moved with his parents, brothers and sisters to Rock Creek, Iowa, where he was confirmed by Rev. J. Olsen. He stayed with his parents on the farm until they sold out. He then went with his half-brother, John, to North Dakota and stayed there one summer. He came back to stay with his parents in St. Ansgar and went into the harness business in which he continued until taken ill this winter. For the last seven weeks he has been bedfast. He died Sunday morning, April 15.

He is survived by one sister, Miss Pauline Syverud, of St. Ansgar, and a half-sister, Mrs. E.E. Hegg, of Osage; also several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held at the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, April 17, the Rev. Waldeland officiating. The funeral was very largely attended by the business men of St. Ansgar, his many other St. Ansgar friends and a large number of relatives from Osage and Rock Creek. Burial took place at the Evergreen Lutheran Cemetery north of St. Ansgar.
