Even M. Swain, a resident of Zumbrota, Minnesota for the past sixteen years, passed away August 2, 1933 after an illness of about a year resulting from old age. He had attained the age of 88 years, 5 months and 18 days. He died with his open Bible at his side. It was his staff as a pioneer into this country, and served to prepare him for his eternity.
The deceased was born February 15, 1845 at Beredalen, Norway, and died at the home of his son, O.E. Swain. He was united in marriage June 1871 to Olivia Marie Swain, and this union was blessed with three children.
The family emigrated to America in 1876, and resided in Rock County, Wisconsin until 1885 when they moved to Iowa and settled at St. Ansgar. His wife passed away in 1913 and soon after that he came to this vicinity and made his home with his son, who survives him, also a daughter, Mrs. F.J. Priem of St. Ansgar, Iowa, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held August 5, at one o'clock at the Larson Chapel, Rev. A.S. Running, pastor of United Lutheran church, officiating. The remains were taken to St. Ansgar to the home of his daughter, where services were held, and also at the First Lutheran church where Rev. Olaf A. Langehough officiated and Mr. and Mrs. Willie Groth sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." Interment was made in the church cemetery. The pall bearers were grandsons, Evan and Alonzo Swain, Harvey and Lawrence Priem, Martin Schroeder and Elmer Duenow.
