MASON CITY, IOWA - Gladys Marie (Nicholson) Bessman, 94, of Mason City, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at the Good Shepherd Health Center.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, Sept. 17, at the United Church of Christ, 212 West Street, Alden, Iowa, with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the church service.
There will be a family visitation from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Gladys Bessman Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Gladys was born on February 17, 1918, in Osage, the daughter of Harry and Maude (Convey) Nicholson. She attended Osage Schools. Gladys lived in Dumont and eventually moved to Mason City - where she worked in the kitchen at Good Shepherd Health Center. Gladys married Leonard Bessman in Charles City. She enjoyed cooking, canning, bird watching, and garage sales.
Gladys is survived by two daughters: Arlene Dole of Alden, and Kay Bessman of Mason City; four grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and two brothers: Harry W. Nicholson of Rudd, and Marshall D. Nicholson and wife Jeanette of Mason City. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband;and four brothers: Louis, Lester, Stanley, and Harold.
