Edna M (Schumacher) Goettl

August 13, 1919 – December 25, 2005

Edna M. Goettl, age 86, formerly of the town of Sigel, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2005, at the Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek, Wis.

She was born on August 13, 1919, in Meyer, Iowa, the daughter of Anthony "Tony" and Christina (Werner) Schumacher.

Edna grew up in the town of Sigel, and graduated from Cadott High School She worked as a stenographer and played clarinet in a four-piece band at local clubs.

She married Peter M. Goettl on September 20, 1944, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cadott. Following marriage, they lived and farmed in the town of Sigel.

Edna was very active in St. Rose of Lima Parish and St. Joseph's School where she was a member of St. Anne's Altar Society and St. Agatha's Circle. She loved gardening, cooking, sewing, reading, crossword puzzles and played a mean game of Scrabble.

Edna is survived by her children, Ann "Chris" (Chuck) Collins of Phoenix, Arizona, Michael (Kari) Goettl of Bloomer, Wis., Therese Goodteacher of Yankton, So. Dak., Barbara (Franklin) Greene of Cadott, Mary (Mark) Javner of Prairie Farm, Wis., Dr. Virginia Goettl of Columbus, Ohio, and Susan Goettl (Linda Berdine) of Haymarket, Virginia; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Peter, in 1987; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and David Steinmetz in 2003; a sister, Florence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2005, at the Mae Rowan Ecumenical Chapel in Chippewa Falls, Wis., with Fr. Daniel DuChez officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
