Garnet was born January 30, 1919 in Halstad, Minnesota, to George and Mary Decker. Garnet’s father died of a heart attack when she was 5 years old and soon after that her mom and the family moved to the McIntire area.
Garnet was united in marriage to Dale Duryee May 26, 1935. To this union 5 children were born. They lived in the McIntire area until 1949 when they moved to the Marble Rock area, where they lived until 1963. They returned to the McIntire area until 1992 when they moved to St. Ansgar.
Garnet has lived in Iowa Falls in apartment the last three years near her children. She has been a resident of the Rockwell Community Nursing Home since November 2011.
Garnet worked at the Osage Care Center and also the Riceville Care Center for a few years and enjoyed her work.
Garnet accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior in 1943 and as a result has her assurance of spending eternity with her Lord and Savior in heaven.
Garnet is survived by four children; Shirley Pals (Ronald) of Hampton, Sandra Fear (Rich) of Racine, Wisconsin, Arnold (Louise) of Marble Rock, David (Ardys) of Ackley and daughter-in-law Linda Duryee (Murlyn’s wife) of Madison, Wis. 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dale in 1992, a son, Murlyn in 2005, grandson Roger, sisters; Ada in infancy, Inez, and Opal, brothers; Merle (Tim), John and sisters-in-law; Lois Decker and Norma Cable, brothers-in-law Kenneth Duryee, Gernard Duryee and Wendall Duryee.

#2:ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Garnet R. Duryee, 93, died July 3, 2012, at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home in Rockwell.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 7, at the St. Ansgar United Methodist Church, 510 West Fourth St., with Pastor Gary Gonnerman officiating. Burial will be in the Wayne Cemetery in McIntire. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.
