FREDERICKSBURG, IOWA - Esther Eunice Shumate, 84, of Fredericksburg, died Friday (Jan. 10, 2003) at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Hampton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Peace United Church of Christ in Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Joan Fumetti officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.
Visitation was held on Monday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Fredericksburg and will resume one hour prior to services today at the church.

April 5, 1918 -- January 10, 2003Funeral services for Esther Shumate of Fredericksburg were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14 at Peace United Church of Christ in Fredericksburg with Rev. Joan Fumetti officiating.
Interment was in Osage Cemetery, Osage. Pallbearers were: Tim Cooney, Harvey Drewelow, Harvey Richards, Dennis Hartson, Dale Flugge, and Anon Anderson. Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Homes handled the arrangements.
Esther, 84, died Friday, January 10, 2003 at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Hampton of natural causes.
Esther Eunice Shumate was born April 5, 1918 in Racine, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Oline (Bates) Kath. She attended rural country school near Racine and attended high school in Stewartville, Minnesota.
On May 9, 1936 she married Art Shumate and they resided in Fredericksburg. Esther worked as a cook for many years for her sister and husband, Lila and Harvey Grummett at their Fredericksburg restaurant.
She is survived by three sisters: Lila Grummett of Oelwein, Doris Fellows, and Ilene Kath, both of Rochester, Minnesota.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband Art on December 16, 1978; and her parents.
