OSAGE, IOWA - Katherine "Lou" Pohle, 91, of Osage, died Friday, June 1, 2012, at Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.

Katherine “Lou” Pohle, 91, of Osage, died Friday, June 1, 2012, at Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 8, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church in Osage with Chaplain Dave Byrd, Iowa Hospice, officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. There will be a time of lunch and fellowship at the church following the burial.

Katherine Louisa “Lou” Pohle was born March 4, 1921, in Larned, Kansas, the daughter of Mickel and Hannah (Fowler) Tennes. She graduated from Augusta Tilghman High School in Paducah, Kentucky, in 1940.

On April 15, 1942, Lou was united in marriage to Harold Henry Pohle in Norfolk, Virginia while he was in the Navy. In 1945, Lou, Harold and their son, James, moved to Osage. In 1946, a second son, John, was born. She worked for Anthony’s Department Store. When the store closed in 1976, she went to work for Coast to Coast and retired in May of 1983. Lou joined the First United Methodist Church in January of 1946. She was an active member in the UMW on the local and district level.

She was very involved with her church circle, helped with Bible School for many years and studied and became a certified lay speaker. Lou was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star. She was the Worthy Matron in 1957 and held the secretary position for several years. Lou enjoyed bridge, knitting and reading but mostly spending time the last four years with her great-grandchild and family.

Survivors include two sons, James (Jeannie) Pohle of Jensen Beach, Florida, John Pohle of Forest Hills, New York; granddaughter, Amy (Jeff) Mitchell of Osage; great-grandson, Logan Mitchell of Osage; sister, Mary Shibley of East Syracuse, New York; brother: Paul (Esther) Tennes of Goose Creek, South Carolina; her neighbors, whom she referred to as her “Osage” family, Ed and Judy Kramme of Osage, and their children, Robin Kettwick of Buffalo Center, Marci (Mike) Demaris of Mason City, Todd (Cheryl) Kramme of Decorah, and their families; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Harold in 1974; a grandson, James Pohle in 2011; an infant sister, Edna May Tennes; brothers, Raymond and Eugene Tennes; brother-in-law, John Shibley; and sister-in-law, Lucille Tennes.
