William Zilk – January 30, 1845 – January 12, 1919

William Zilk has been a resident of Jenkins Township since September, 1856. At that date the town was designated as township 99, range 15.

He was born in Prussia, Germany, January 30, 1845, and emigrated to America with his parents, Charles and Mary Zilk, in 1854.

The family located near Burlington, Racine County, Wisconsin, and in the following year removed to Howard Co., Iowa, and came to Mitchell County in September, 1856, as stated. The father entered government land and reared his children.

Mr. Zilk was married January 30, 1873, to Augusta, daughter of August Neumuth.

Mr. Zilk owns a valuable farm of 196 acres on section 22.

William Zilk was born January 30, 1845, the son of Charles “Carl” Friedrich Zilk and Mary (Huebner) Zilk. He married Augusta Neumuth, the daughter of August Neumuth and Augusta (Zulke) Neumuth.

They were the parents of seven children; two died before 1900.
