HAZEL SCOTT PHY DIES IN OREGON
The following from the Waterloo Courier relates the sad news of a former Riceville girl:
LeGrande, Ore. – Mrs William T. (Hazel Scott) Phy died at her home at Hot Lake near here, at 4a.m. Tuesday.
Hazel Iris Scott was born Sept. 15, 1896, at Lime Springs, Ia., the daughter of Charles L. and Effie (Schempp) Scott. At an early age she moved with her parents to Riceville, Where she attended public and high school. Later the family moved to Waterloo.
From 1920 to 1924, she was society editor of the Waterloo Courier, and had made many friends in and around Waterloo.
She attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, both before and after her association with the Courier, and in 1925 went to LaGrande, Ore., to ingage in newspaper work. Dec. 28, 1926, she was married in Waterloo to Dr. William T. Phy, of Hot Lake Ore.
She had been seriously ill of colitis for some weeks before her death. Her mother and her sister, Mrs. E.E. Anderson both of 1132 South Street, Waterloo, left Monday night for Hot Lake and will arrive there Thursday morning.
Surviving besides the husband, are a son, William Jr, the father and mother, the sister and a brother Lee of Waterloo.
