Birth: Jan. 12, 1856, Wilmot, Kenosha County,
Wisconsin.

Death: Oct. 23, 1928, Little Cedar, Mitchell County, Iowa.

George Penney II, born January 12, 1856 came to Stacyville, Iowa from Kenosha, Wisconsin when he was 13 years old. In Wisconsin he helped pick cranberries in a cranberry marsh on the home farm.

He married Mary Jane Pearce in 1878. They lived on a farm east of Stacyville and later moved to a farm northwest of Little Cedar, Iowa. He was one of the men who lost a lot of money buying irrigated land in Texas from a fast talking realtor.

They had five children:

(1) Spencer (born July 30, 1880) spent most of his life on a ranch near Rapelje, Montana. He never married. He died in Little Cedar, Iowa May 2, 1942.

(2) Herbert (Born September 8, 1884) married Gladys Makepeace. They farmed most of their life south of Little Cedar, Iowa. Their children were Howard, Dorothy, and Stuart.

(3) Sydney (Born September 12, 1888) married Helen Fairbanks. Their children are Doris, Vinus, Mildred and twins Earle and Merle.

(4) Clinton (Joe) (born March 26, 1890). He married Thelma McPhail. Their children are Maxine, Dean, Ruth and Rex.

(5) Mary (born April 22, 1893) rode horseback to school graduating in 1911. The next year she taught the Winer School, having Sydney Winer and Gregor Niles in first grade. Gregor spoke nothing but German. The next year she clerked in Sanborn's store in Little River, Iowa. On March 6, 1913 she married W. Clyde Elliott. They farmed until her death June 20, 1942. They had three children: Ivan (born August 21, 1914) married Lindy Loden June 4, 1938. They farmed eight years with his Dad, later moving to Tucson, Arizona where they had a chicken ranch. Their children - James, Richard, and Dennis. (2) Frances (born January 19, 1921) married Beverly Morse February 1, 1941. They ran a dairy farm east of Osage, Iowa until they retired to Osage. Their children - Charles, Mary and Penny. (3) Beda (born April 26, 1923) married Dean Dodge February 26, 1944. They farmed east of Orchard, Iowa until they retired to Osage. Their children - Ruth and Robert.
