Tucson, Ariz. - Maynard F. Swancutt, 76, formerly of Riceville and Charles City, Iowa, died Thursday, December 22, 2011, at Avalon Southwest Care Center, Tucson, Ariz.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 19, at the Riceville United Methodist Church, 308 Woodland Ave, Riceville. Officiating will be Paul Pickar, Certified Lay Minister. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Maynard's cremated remains will be inurned in the Riverside Cemetery in Riceville.

Maynard was born on January 27, 1935, in Riceville, the son of Elby R. and Mary A. (Greeley) Swancutt. He graduated from the Riceville High School and then served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 until 1960. He then was employed at the Oliver farm tractor factory in Charles City while maintaining his residence in Riceville. In the mid 1970s, he moved to Tucson, where he was employed as a fabricator at the Geronimo Glass and Mirror Company until his retirement. Some of his pleasures were being a member of the VFW and playing in the pool league, a hobby that has been passed on to other family members from Maynard.

Those surviving Maynard are his four children Pamela M. Clausen, Cincinnati, Ohio; Diana M. and her husband Joel Fleenor, Timothy L. Coen, and Laurie A. Duryee and her life partner Terry Bates all of Mason City, nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his siblings Shirley Swancutt, Neldon (Della) Swancutt, both of Elma; Niles (Pat) Swancutt Spencer, his sister-in-law Ellen Swancutt of Tucson; and many nieces and nephews.

His parents, sister Donna Swancutt, brother Charles Swancutt, and sister and brother-in-law Lois and Dick O'Hara preceded him in death.
