JOSHUA PARNWELL, 89, WHOSE HOME BURNED IN WINTER, WAS IN POOR HEALTH
Riceville – One of the oldest local residents, Joshua Parnwell, 89, died early Monday. He was the youngest of 10 children and was born January 31, 1847 at Dunkirk, New York. He came to Riceville in 1869 and on June 21, 1882, was married to Mrs. Eunice Foster.
To them were born five children, Mrs. Sadie Travis of Ocomonoc, Wisconsin; Mrs. Ruth Werner of McCloud, North Dakota; Belle, at home; and George and Mrs. Mary White, who are deceased. They have but one grandchild, Earl White.
Mrs. Parnwell’s two older children; William Foster and family of Dodge Center, Minnesota; and Mrs. Abbie Roberts and family of Columbus, Wisconsin have always been included in the family circle and have helped care for the aged couple, who lost their home and its contents by fire during the extreme cold weather this winter.
Friends helped to establish a new home for them about April 1, but age and the shock and exposure of the fire proved too much for is frail body. Funeral services will be held at the home Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Bodenham. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Riceville.
