Ole P. Fjeld
Ole P. Fjeld, oldest son of Peter and Martha Fjeld, was born in Strand, Stavanger, Norway on January 1, 1855. He passed away quietly at 3:00 Saturday morning, August 23, 1941, at the age of 86 years, 7 months, and 23 days.
In 1872 he immigrated to America with his parents, brothers, and sisters, coming to Osage, Iowa where they located in Cedar Township. The voyage was made in a sailboat and entailed many hardships.
On November 10, 1880 he was married to Inger Olson of Malmo, Sweden, by the Rev. Johan Olsen in St. Ansgar. On April 1, 1881 he moved to his present home in West Cedar Township, Mitchell County. Here he spent more than sixty years. His son Peter and wife now reside in the home.
In 1930 Mr. and Mrs. Fjeld celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary.
On October 4, 1938, Mrs. Fjeld passed away and since that time he has gradually declined, death being due to the infirmities of old age.
Mr. Fjeld is survived by his four sons: Oscar, Martin, Peter, and Carl all of whom reside nearby. Four grandchildren also survive as well as the following brothers and sisters: Lewis Fjeld of Manly; Peter Fjeld of Ann Arbor, MI; Mrs. Aaron Levine of Park River, North Dakota; and Mrs. Emelia Fods of Colton, South Dakota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In his native country he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
He was a faithful member of the Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Clear Lake and attended whenever his health permitted. He trusted and loved his Savior and found contentment and joy in God’s work and in prayer. He will be missed as a kind friend and neighbor, and as a loving father.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon, August 25th, at 2 o’clock at the home of his son, Martin, with the Rev J.O. Blanness officiating, assisted by the Rev J.H. Stenstetter and the Rev. G.B. Breson. The four sons and two grandsons acted as pallbearers. Interment was in the Rock Creek Lutheran cemetery.
