RICEVILLE — Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Mrs. Rudolph Hoffman, 70, who died in the hospital at Riceville Wednesday evening.

She leaves besides her husband, Rudolph Hoffman of Riceville, two sons, Harlan Johnston of California and Roy Johnston of Minneapolis, and two daughters, Mrs. John Grace of Mclntire and Miss DeEtta Johnston, who teaches in the public schools at Boone.

Interment was at the Riverside Cemetery at Riceville.

Note: Harlan and Roy's surnames were spelled Johnson in the original obit; but their surname was actually Johnston.

NOTES:

Lydia Cummings was born December 1868 in Iowa, the daughter of Eben Cummings and Mary Pilcher. She married Adam Johnston (1863-1913). They had four children;

1) Roy S., 18, born Iowa (Roy Sinclair Johnston June 26, 1891).
2) Harland A., 17, born Iowa (Harland Albert Johnston April 6, 1893 --died July 30, Eagle, Idaho).
3) Ruth L., 9, born Iowa (Ruth Leone (Johnston) Grace May 12, 1900-June 11, 1984).
4) Deetta M., 6, born Iowa (De Etta (Johnson) Mattheis August 10-1893-November 1987).

She married Rudolph Marcus Hoffman, somewhere between the 1920 and 1930 Census.

Rudolph Hoffman, 75, born New York.
Lydia L. Hoffman, 62, born Iowa.

Lydia was listed in the Riverside Cemetery (listing on IaGenWeb) as "Lydea Johnston," along with her first husband Adam Johnston.
