Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 2, 1945, at his home and at the Toeterville church, for William A. Ehlke, 90, who died Friday at his home near Toeterville, following a long period of poor health. The Rev. H. Raum conducted the services. Interment was made in St. Peters Cemetery at Toeterville.
William August Ehlke, son of August and Dorthea Bretzman Ehlke, was born at Kirchayn, Wisconsin, February 19, 1855. In March, 1878, he came with his parents to Iowa where they established their home in Union township, Mitchell county.
October 10, 1880, he was united in marriage to Margaret Baldner. To this union five children were born. One child preceded him in death. The couple established their home on a farm in Union Township, where Mr. Ehlke died.
In 1915, he and his wife left the farm and established their home in Toeterville where they lived together until September 4, 1929, when his wife died. Two years later he went back to the farm to make his home with his son, Charles and family.
Mr. Ehlke was an invalid for many years and was confined to a wheelchair most of the time.
He is survived by four children: Mrs. Minnie Brandt of Osage, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ehlke of St. Ansgar, Mrs. Louise Heman of Osage; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Bolgren of Waltham, Minnesota, and Mrs. Sarah Bruggeman of Toeterville.
