NIMS, HOFFER, BEHRNES

2-YEAR-OLD BOY IS
KILLED BY TRAIN

Christopher, 2-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Nims, lost his life Tuesday near his home at Evanston, Illinois, when he was struck by a train. Details have not been learned by the local relatives at the time this is written.

The parents, another child, Bruce, aged 4 years, Mr. Nim's father, H. W. Nims and wife, the latter of Norfolk, Nebraska, and the younger Mrs. Nims' mother, arrived here today with the cremated remains of the child. Burial will be made in the Osage Cemetery beside the child's grandmother, the late Mrs. H. W. Nims.

William Nims is well-known in Osage as he spent many vacations here in his youth with his grandparents, the William Hoffers and the late Mr. and Mrs. Nims, also with his aunt, Mrs. James Casey. After obtaining his doctor's degree in physiology at Northwestern University at Evanston "Billy" was retained by the university board as an instructor and now heads the personnel department.

Christopher R. Nims was born November 15, 1941 in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois, the son of William Hoffer Nims and Letha (Parrott) Nims.

He died June 20, 1944 in Evanston, Cook Co., Illinois. (Illinois death records).

The death record says that he was buried June 21, 1944 in Skokie, Cook, Illinois, at the Memorial Park Cemetery, but from the obit above his ashes were brought to Osage instead, on the 22nd. William Hoffer Nims, his father, was born March 27, 1908 in Bagley, Minnesota and died February 1987 in New York. He was the son of Henry Worthington Nims 1876-1968 and Sadie (Hoffer) Nims. Henry Worthington Nims was married twice, his first wife being Sadie Hoffer who died in 1928 and his 2nd wife Jessie Crane who died in 1932. Both of these wives are buried in the Osage Cemetery. Henry Worthington Nims 1876-1968 died in Norfolk, Madison County, Nebraska. Henry Worthington Nims 1876-1968 was the son of William James Nims 1854-1939 and Lillian Elizabeth (Newcomb) Nims 1856-1937, they are both buried in the Osage Cemetery.

The Hoffers mentioned in the above obit are William Frederick Hoffer who was also married twice, and Sadie Hoffer Nims was the daughter of his first wife Elizabeth (Behrnes) Hoffer.
