OSAGE, IOWA -- William James Hanna, age 86, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Osage, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Bickford of Cedar Falls

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Bruce Kaltwasser officiating. Burial will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery with military honors at the grave by Walter T. Enneberg American Legion Post 358 of St. Ansgar. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

William James Hanna, age 86, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Osage, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Bickford of Cedar Falls.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Bruce Kaltwasser officiating. Burial will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery with military honors at the grave by Walter T. Enneberg American Legion Post 358 of St. Ansgar. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Jim was born February 1, 1926, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of William and Agnes (Anderson) Hanna. He attended school in St. Ansgar and graduated from St. Ansgar High School. Jim served in the U.S. Marines during World War II in the Pacific Theater. On May 25, 1947, he was united in marriage to Geneva Marcks at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. They made their home in St. Ansgar before moving to Osage in 1954, where Jim was a printer at the Osage Press News.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as a deacon, and was a life time member of the St. Ansgar American Legion. Jim enjoyed golf, dancing, playing cards, and most importantly, spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his commitment to his country, wife, family and faith.

Jim is survived by his wife, Geneva Hanna of Cedar Falls; his children, Mike (Pam) Hanna of Urbandale and Julie (Russ) Foth of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren, Kate Westphal, Kelly Kohls, Jennifer Wightman, Jamie Johnson and Kurt Hanna; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Doug (Rose) Hanna of St. Ansgar.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Phillip Hanna.
