Carol Ann Erbe
Longtime Springfield resident Carol Ann Erbe died at home March 30, 2005 after a long battle with cancer. Ms. Erbe was 59.
She was born on January 10, 1946, in Osage, Iowa, to Harold "Dutch" and Marilyn (Warrington) Erbe.
She graduated from Springfield High School in 1964 and from the University of Oregon in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. She lived in Mason City, Iowa, following graduation, then returned to Springfield.
She was employed for 30 years at Springfield High School, most of the time as Registrar. She was involved in a variety of activities at the school. Her family stated that, "She lived at Springfield High School!" She also enjoyed reading and knitting.
She combined her interest in the early internet and her father's military service by developing a web page for B-24 veterans. Known to the vets as "Maven," she kept contact with many of the vets around the country and around the world. One highlight for Carol was a chance to fly in a B-24 that tours the country and is sponsored by the Collings Foundation.
She is survived by her aunt Margaret Ebeling of Mason City, Iowa; cousins Jodie Yezak; Jim Ebeling and their families of Iowa; the Lanini family: Judy, Don, Lisa, and Lora of Springfield; the Walker family: Tara, Josh, Shanon, and Cheyenne of Springfield; Pat Miller of Hemet, Calif.; longtime friend Ronalee Kincaid of Bellingham, Washington; and many friends at Springfield High School.
A memorial will be at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 4, at Northwood Christian Church, 2425 Harvest Lane, Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Springfield High School Memorial Fund in memory of Carol.
Major Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

#3:Erbe is the daughter of a ball gunner in the 8th Air force. Some time ago there was a portion of Prodigy devoted to veteran's postings. One day Carol came on line asking if there were any B-24 veterans about. She would like to talk to them. She was the daughter of a B-24 ball gunner.
Well, the B-24 vets came out of the woodwork and the B-24 Roll Call was born. Prodigy, after some time began to charge by the time that the vets were online. The Vets and Carol abandoned Prodigy and moved over to the Internet where we remain today.
Carol, undaunted by the shift over, made efforts to establish an area where her B-24 friends could once again congregate. With the help of a relative , Andy Smith, and a wonderful website , she was able to bring into being the Internet B-24 Veterans Group which thrives with its' Mailing List, Guest List and Web Site.
Some time ago, a grateful group of these Vets contributed to allow Carol to fly aboard a B-24 which her Dad had flown in so many years before. The "All American" rebuilt by contributions to the Collings foundation flies once again today. She is outfitted with the combat regalia she had in World War II. Thanks much for your efforts, Carol Erbe.
