JOE EDGE, SR. DIED
SUDDENLY OF HEART
FAILURE TUESDAYJoe Edge, Sr. passed away at his home in the western part of town on Tuesday morning at 3 o'clock, after only a few hours illness. He had delivered milk the day preceding, and had been up town. About noon he became somewhat ill, but continued to work around as was his custom. In the night he was taken sick and died within a short time from heart failure.
Joe Edge was born at Hartford, Connecticut, on September 3, 1856, and died at Osage, Iowa, on November 3, 1924.
He came to Osage when a youth, and was married to Alphene Cummings on September 1, 1882. Mrs. Edge preceded him in death on May 24, 1921.
Mr. Edge was an industrious man, and for years was associated with John Bartle, James Muffley and Ed Stacy in buying grain and stock. When he became too old to engage in this work he purchased a small farm on the edge of town and has engaged in truck farming for a number of years. The past few years he has been in poor health, suffering from leakage of the heart.
Mr. and Mrs. Edge were parents of seven children: Mrs. Irving Lambert, Mitchell, Mrs. Ben Flack, Mrs. William Parsons, Gail and Raymond, of Osage; William, who died in infancy; and Joe, Jr., now living in Osage. Besides the children, one brother, John Edge survives.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at the Baptist church, conducted by the Rev. Edward Koster, and burial made in the local cemetery.

#2:Samuel Joseph Edge was born to Samuel and Annie Edge in Hartford, Connecticut, September 3, 1856. About six weeks ago he was stricken with heart disease, death claiming him on November 4, 1924, at his home in Osage, at the age of 69 years. When a child he was baptized in the Episcopal church. At an early age he moved with his parents to New York City, where he resided until 17 years of age. Having lost both his parents, he came to Mason City, Iowa, in 1892. There he remained for nine years, then came to Osage, where he has made his home ever since.
He was married to Alphrena Cummings in 1882. To this union were born seven children: William, who died in infancy; Mrs. E. Lambert, of Mitchell; Mrs. Ben Flack, Mrs. E. W. Parsons, Samuel Joseph, Jr., of Osage, Gale and Ray at home.
His wife preceded him in death in 1921. Those left to mourn his untimely loss are his children, one brother, John Edge, of Osage, and four grandchildren: Burnell and Junior Flack; Kenneth and Edna Lambert.
Joe, as he was commonly known throughout Mitchell county, was one of the most honest and upright men of Osage. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. For 30 years he was stock and grain buyer for Ed Stacy, James Muffley and John Bartle, where he made a wide acquaintance and host of friends. He was a man who was always at home enjoying his children and earthly possessions. He was a great reader and thinker, took much comfort in his last weeks in politics. Almost the last words he uttered were, "Well, I'll vote for my man Coolidge if they have to bring the ballot down to me." He was a faithful father and husband, always thoughtful of those about him.
The home has been broken, mother and father gone, but their memory still remains among a host of friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Interment in Osage cemetery.
